As I have never been excited by the old map, the new extensions have made me put together a new one. I think that it reads a little easier and really pulls the page together.

Fairly major update to the elevation page.

I have included elevation maps for the individual legs of the trail. I hope that this will make clearer the “How much more do I have to climb?” thoughts that one often has during a ride. The chart came pretty easily since I have the data sitting around from creating the complete chart.

I am thinking of making downloadable charts based on the mile markers. Does that sound of used to anyone?

Check it out and pass on your thoughts.

Your new elevation maps are great. I appreciate the detail you have placed into them. Today, I have focused on the Iola – Humboldt portion. One correction to note there. Location D – the bridge, it is passing over “Elm Creek”. The Neosho River is actually further West of the railbed.

In attending committee meetings for the Iola-Humboldt trail I am learning it appears there will need to be a clear distinction with naming that part of trail. I believe Kansas Wildlife and Parks will want to make sure the public does not perceive this section as part of the Prairie Spirit Rail Trail or the State Park System. As a name and plans develop there I will try to keep BPS.com posted on the I2H extension.

Thanks K!

I have made the changes to the onsite maps and should get to the pdf versions by the end of the day. I am also working on a version that is marked by mile markers. Slightly more practical while riding.

While I think that it is a stupid distinction and that the state should buck-up and make it a State Park now so as to help with the development, I would propose naming that section “The Southern Trail” or “The Southern Kansas Trail” after the various railroads that ran the line before the ATSF. Most of the other rail names were named after geographic locations that the trail does not currently connect.

Thanks for the info.

Good news, looks like I will be hitting the Northern half of the trail tomorrow morning. Hope to see you on the trail soon.

These nre trailhead-to-trailhead sectional ones give a realistic view of the grades involved. Good to have!
